Scout

Scout is the first to predict Michigan will win the Legends division in this preview. The website, known for its recruiting prowess, has the Wolverines finishing 9-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play. The predicted losses being Notre Dame, Iowa and Illinois. Interesting that Scout predicts Michigan to beat Ohio State then face them in a re-match for the conference title and a shot at a BCS bowl game.

Michigan Big Ten Unit Rankings:

Offense 2nd Defense 7th
QB 1st DL 7th
RB 4th LB 7th
WR 6th DB 8th
OL 5th ST 11th

Scout’s summary of the offense is that it was successful last year ranking 8th in the nation in total yards. Al Borges wants more dropback pocket passing and power running but doesn’t necessarily have the personnel to do this. The key to the offenses success is predicted Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Denard Robinson’s ability to adapt to the new style and stay healthy.  The defense last year was a “disaster.” Scout expects massive changes and a night and day improvement over last year’s squad with Mike Martin and Ryan Van Bergen anchoring the line.

Predicted Finish:

Legends Leaders
Michigan (9-3, 6-2) Ohio State (10-2, 6-2)
Nebraska (9-3, 5-3) Wisconsin (10-2, 6-2)
Michigan State (8-4, 4-4) Illinois (7-5, 4-4)
Iowa (8-4, 4-4) Penn State (7-5, 4-4)
Northwestern (6-6, 3-5) Purdue (5-7, 2-6)
Minnesota (5-7, 2-6) Indiana (4-8, 1-7)
In Scout’s list of the top 30 players in the entire conference, Robinson comes in 1st, David Molk in 14th and Mike Martin 18th. Their next seven players falling outside the initial list are (in order): Roy Roundtree, Jordan Kovacs, Ryan Van Bergen, Troy Woolfolk, Cam Gordon, Taylor Lewan & Devin Gardner.

This preview has Scout going out on a limb to predict Michigan to win the Legends division basically because they get Nebraska & Ohio State at home. Beyond the scheduling they rank the Wolverines’ units poorly and shoot holes through the legitimacy of their prediction in the entire preview. Almost seems like a prediction to get page views to me.
